Multi-Static Radar System with cell coverage for Airport and Urban Airspace Control

Sviluppumbria (Regional Development for the Economic Development of Umbria) project for the realisation of a multi-static radar system designed to monitor and control airport and urban aerospace, in particular for the integration of SAPR (Sistemi Aeronautici a Pilotaggio Remoto) commonly called drones in non-segregated aerospace.

 

CONTEXT

The MOSAIC project, led by RF Microtech and Eagleprojects, leverages advanced FMCW radar technology to develop a distributed UAV surveillance system based on a network of polygonal cells. By integrating both monostatic and multistatic radar architectures and synchronizing them with a high-precision time reference from the Galileo GNSS constellation, the system enables accurate real-time tracking of UAV position and velocity.

This high level of performance is maintained despite significant technical challenges, such as the high speed and small size of UAVs, complex urban environments, and regulatory limitations on radar emissions. Main key features of MOSAIC are its scalability, cost-effective design and use of existing urban infrastructure to support broad deployment and long-term sustainability.
