Compact High-Performance Filters for Space Applications based on dielectric resonator technology

ESA Artes 5.1 project to investigate miniaturized narrowband filters for satellite applications at L- and S-bands based on dielectric filled waveguide technology.

OBJECTIVES

Coaxial filters are currently standard technologies for L-, S-band input filters. This technology has found wide application in mobile missions with multi-beam payloads, but also for TT&C and as IF filters, however, in L- and S-band this technology is inherently large and bulky since it is based on TEM air resonators.

The project first goal is to identify the most suited technology and develop surface mountable filters at L-band and at C-band for space applications. The targeted improvement is a highly integrated Ku- or Ka-band to IF converters with up to 20% mass and footprint saving with respect to the state of the art.
