Roberto Sorrentino will be remembered by an Award named after him, initiated by Mrs Linda Di Carlo Sorrentino setting up one award every year for ‘brilliant engineers’.
We are proud to contribute with Linda Di Carla Sorrentino, EuMA and SieM to sponsor the award because we believe this is an excellent way to remember our beloved Prof. and mentor Roberto Sorrentino.
About Roberto Sorrentino Prize
The award should be composed of a financial prize of 4000 € together with a medal and a certificate with the names of sponsors, awarded every year for at least ten years.
This annual award is going to recognize an outstanding young professional who is a EuMA member who has distinguished technical achievements (not on a single paper) within the EuMA’s fields of interest.
The technical achievements may include technical papers in journals and/or conferences/symposia sponsored or technical sponsored by EuMA.
The technical achievements may also include services as a committee member for these Journals and/or conferences/symposia.
This award focuses on the individual rather than the achievements and would preferably be in yearly alternation between university and industry.
The nomination deadline is September 30, 2021.
For more details visit EuMA website.
The award will be presented at the Opening Session of the European Microwave Week (EuMW). The first award is planned to be presented at the EuMW 2021 in London, February 2022.
In memory of Prof. Roberto Sorrentino
Before founding RF Microtech company, Professor Sorrentino was full Professor of Electromagnetic fields at the Perugia University, in which he has been the Dean of Engineering Faculty. He has devoted his research activity to electromagnetism and to its different applications in Telecommunication Systems and Industrial Sensors.
He was one of the founders and first president of European Microwave Association and of the Italian Society of Electromagnetism. During its activity he received numerous international acknowledgements, such as: the title of Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1990, the IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000 and in 2005 the Microwave Career Award of IEEE (the only Italian to receive this award).
In 2007, together with a group of young engineers (his former students) Professor Sorrentino founded RF Microtech, that now leads with excellent results.
Nel 2019, Prof. Sorrentino was appointed as High Official of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy, for his commitment in the field of research and development. The prestigious award was bestowed by the Italian Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, upon proposal of President of the Council Giuseppe Conte.
