We are very proud to announce that the project STEDI  - Small TErminal multiband DIplexers for ground segment satellite communications, in partnership with SIAE MICROELETTRONICA, has been successfully completed. About the project… Aim of the project STEDI (‘Small user TErminal Diplexers’) is the development, manufacturing, test and comparison of different technology concepts for user terminal Ku-/Ka-band dplxs using novel technologies, aiming at large-scale fabrication of RF compact filters compatible with planar and monolithic circuits. Particular importance is devoted to three technologies: micromachining (MM), LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) SIW (Substrate Integrated Waveguide) on planar substrates (either in PCB or alumina technology), which have recently demonstrated their potentialities in terms of moderate and high unloaded Q-factor (Q), compactness and cost-effective solutions up to frequencies 30÷50 GHz. More info here The Final Review with European Space Agency was held in  December. Promising results of innovative diplexers based on micromachining, LTCC and alumina thin film technologies have been achieved and compared in collaboration with our partner SIAE Microelettronica. RF Microtech has been invited to the Mars2hearth conference (www.marstoearth.org). Microwave technology is a key topic for communication and beyond. It could be used to build structures directly on site! The MARS TO EARTH 2021 conference is now in its third year and will focus on the applications of Mars and Space research programmes that are already available to trigger a value-added economic impact on commercial and industrial activities on Earth. With great enthusiasm we announce our presence at the European Microwave Week event dedicated to the world of microwaves and related applications. The city of Utrecht in the Netherlands was supposed to host the 2020 edition of the event, but due to the prolonged effects of the coronavirus pandemic, the event will instead take place in virtual mode from 10 to 15 January 2021.   About the event: The European Microwave Week 2020 is the main European conference on Microwave Technology for Radar and Communication and it features three main specialized technical conferences: European Microwave Conference (EuMC): now in its 50th edition European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC): now in its 15th edition European Radar Conference (EuRAD): now in its 17th edition The program of the entire event, is full of technical sessions covering topics on the following macro themes: Microwave, millimeter and sub-millimeter wave systems Antennas and propagation Wireless technologies Telecommunications (RF, microwaves, optics) Integrated circuits, semiconductor materials and packaging Radar architectures, systems and subsystems Sensors and remote systems Measurement and testing We are looking forward to two speech: 1) On 13.01 WEDNESDAY – h 10:50-11:10 Luca Pelliccia, Head of Microwave Division in RF will present an industrial keynote speech, entitled: Compact On-Board Dielectric Filters and Diplexers for High-Power Satellite Applications 2) On 14.01 THURSDAY h-11.10-11.30 Paolo Vallerotonda, Microwave Engineer in RF R&D area will present his speech entitled: Surface Mountable L- and C-Band Pre-Distorted Filters for Frequency Converters of High Throughput Satellite Systems. Just over two months ago we started our latest project on the development of phase-shifters for future generation phased array antenna applications. Let’s talk about SMARTWAVE. The EU funded project, initially proposed in the original Pathfinder (FET-Open) NANOPOLY project, which aims to reinvent, redesign and commercialize the main element of any beam steering system: the phase-shifter, a device that changes the phase angle in the transmission of an incoming signal. THE PROJECT In an age when everything is mobile and everything becomes wireless, the technological approachis to develop analog electronic components with higher frequencies, smaller and more complexwith beam steering capabilities. The SMARTWAVE project is based on a new phase shift mechanism that allows to enable phaseshift technology with: excellent performance characteristics higher speed reduced energy consumption All this by exploiting the reconfigurability potential of high frequency phase shifters. A project lasting 24 months in which we participate with great pride together with other European realities. The SMARTWAVE team, coordinated by Dr. Afshin Ziaei, explains the idea behind the project: In the modern world everything goes wireless and everyone goes mobile. To sustain this trend, higher frequency, smaller, more complex analogue electronics with beam steering capabilities are becoming ubiquitous. SMARTWAVE capitalizes on a newly identified technology combination to reinvent, design, fabricate and commercialize the main building block of any beam steering capable system, the phase shifter using a novel phase shifting mechanism based on reconfigurable metamaterials.
