‘COmpact Ku/Ka-band filters for On-board processor-based payloads’ ESA project for the development and space assessment of miniaturised Ku- and Ka-band RF filters integrating a wide-band differential interface for on-board digital signal processors (ESA Artes Advanced Technology, Contract AO/1-9717/19/NL/NM)   OBJECTIVES Miniaturising the broadband filters and implementing differential interfaces to the ADCs and DACs (e.g. by integrating baluns) will significantly impact the size of analogue pre- and post-processors. Up to 30% size reduction could be achieved by combining advanced design techniques with three-dimensional implementation techniques such as Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC) or multilayer Printed Circuit Boards (PCB). At the same time, due attention must be paid to implementing good gain and phase stability and tracking through the different analogue signal processing chains, which is important in digital beam forming applications. ‘High-Performance Dielectric Resonators’ ESA project for the development and space assessment of high performance resonators based on dielectric technology (ESA Artes Advanced Technology, Contract 4000126886/19/NL/MM)   OBJECTIVES To develop and experimentally verify high performance dielectric resonators with a quality factor (Q) times frequency (f) figure of merit (Qxf) of at least 250,000 GHz for use in input and output multiplexers in the frequency range from C- to Ka-band (3 ÷ 30 GHz).  The target is to develop enabling technology for a new source of high Q dielectric resonators and to provide a 25% increase in Q factor with respect to currently available European resonator materials.   TRL Level From 3 to 5   STATUS On-going   PARTNERS   RF microtech s.r.l. ‘Dielectric-loaded high-power Output de-MUltiplexer at Ku/ka-band’ ESA project for the development and space assessment of novel user terminal Ku/Ka band diplexers for space communications, ground segment (ESA Artes Advanced Technology, Contract AO/1-9250/18/NL/NR)   OBJECTIVES To develop 250 W-class, Ku-band and Ka-band two-channel output de-multiplexers with 240-250 MHz channel bandwidth and with 30 per cent footprint reduction in comparison to the state of the art.
